Well..pointers?
Just take the riffs youve got and transpose them to the whole step down you have at your disposal.
Try once,fail twice...

That would be 2.5, or even 3.5 steps down in some cases.

But yeah, you can basically play anthing you've been playing on your six string.
Another thing you can do is look up some bands you might like that use seven string guitars, and learn their songs.

...

ey dude,

Seriously I just got a 7-string myself, but it is honestly no different than using a 6-string. It functions the same way, the only difference is having another B string essentailly. You can get into crazy hybrid chords and such with another string to play another note on.

For metal? What the hell, that should he real easy to do on the 7-string without being remotely tripped up by the extra string. Take it from me it's no different, if you think it is you are mistaken and only limiting yourself to a misconcept.

That might be a little harsh, but it's true.

I've had a 7-string for about 4 months now, and it is pretty simple. I just do what I did on the 6-string, but change some things around. What kind of 7-string do you have?

I'm thinking of buying a 7th stringed myself.. Just for learning A Change of Seasons.

But really, if your stuck, I suppose you can try to find some songs from Meshuggah, Tool and of course Dream Theater. Otherwise, I don't really know any other bands that uses 7th stringed..

Good Luck
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?

playing a 7-string is cool. i cant think of playing o na regular 6 string again. infact iĀ“m thinking aout getting an 8-string :D - but there is realy no big getting used to. maybe a few days untill you realized the lowest string is not E *LOL* but thats about it. oh how i love the feeling of that broad fretboard. so thick and fat and uuuuUuuuUUUUUuuuHhhh...

Dude Azrael you are insane, and 8 string would go too low. Eh whatever works.

I am a metal man myself, i have an ESP H-207 and my ESP H-307 is on the way. Bloody things are hard to come by, and expensive. Oh well, I find playing the 7 string absolutely no different from a 6 string. it functions the same, does the same thing, has no fundamental playing differences except another string to let you flush your musical ideas out on.

Just more low end for the rhythm guitars. or another string to sweep from. Ahahaha, sweeping all seven strings is a bitch but fun.

I think his 8th string is a high E, not a low G. That would make it insanely high. ;)
... and that's all I have to say about that.

I thought you said in an earlier post that you were getting an 8 string that would be basically a 6 string with one lower and one higher string... maybe I misread. If it's two lower strings, I don't really get the point... why not just get a bassist?
... and that's all I have to say about that.

putting on a high a string is virtually impossible - i tried it - the string snaps at g#

my custom axe will be a 7-string.

but i would like to have a 8 string. why not? what has this got to do with a bassist? just look at some stick or warr players - even some of them have an additional bassist in their bands. Gordian Knot for example.

oh... when you dont need a bassist in your band because the guitarrist/stickist does it all, you have one person less in the band. that means less problems and more money for the rest. :D
