The term Arpeggio means a chord , but notes are played separately.

Popularly , they are used in clean tone to play easy slow stuff like the intro from "Don't Cry" by GNR or most clean stuff in Scorpions songs... And these are usualy the same shape and pattern of regular chords , but you pick notes individualy in a certain sequence.

Or probably you have read the term arpeggio accompanied by sweep picking , which is a somehow advanced technique , used to shred over arpeggios ... Sweeping arpeggios have a little bit different patterns & fingering than regular chords , to make them easier to play fast ... I can post you some if you'd like.

Here are the basic maj/min sweeping patterns , I've put them all with an E root so that you can easily notice the differences .

BTW , for each of these sweeps , there can be more than one pattern with more awkward or useless fingering but with the same notes ... I've just posted the most popular , which are easier and more usefull.

These will take sometime to master ... Happy Practicing ! ;)

Awesome Sly! Thank you very much!

By the way, do you or anyone else know a good guide for the art of sweeping?

Jason Becker !

Also Michael Angelo got some nice sweeping passages , but not as good or strong as Becker's .

Marty Freidman for more unusual stuff.
