my mother is having a baby soon.
since i won't be able to blast my amp anymore, and not to mention tab songs from hearing i was thinking about getting a mixer, and connect the stereo and amp to it and listen from headphones to both.
now, is there anything i should know about this idea?
is it a good idea? is there a better idea?
how will the sound be effected? will it suck more or less than the amp speaker? (i have really expencive headphones).
any recomendations? tricks?

Digitech GNX pedals have a "learn a lick" feature which enables you to pipe in a CD (via a boom box or stereo etc) whilst listening to you playing over the top via headphones.

My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

Congrats on your new brother or sister! :)

How do you plan to connect the amp to the stereo? If you have a tube amp, you can't disconnect the speaker and plug that line into the stereo. You need a 'line out' from the preamp, or a special load that you can substitute for the speaker.

I would ditch the idea of getting a mixer, and just get an amp modeling unit in stead. Something like a Line6 POD, Behringer V-amp,... These devices usually have an auxiliary input through which you can connect an external sound source such as a stereo, disc-man,...
