I have a neck-through Ibanez rg42, its the 2002 model which comes with a pair of Ibanez Infinity humbuckers. They sound good, but If I feel at times there is something missing. I used to use a Duncan blade humbucker on my old guitar. It produced a more seering tone and more chunk when I palm muted. The drop sonic is half bar and half pole pieces. It seems like it would be the perfect balance between mild and edgy tone.

I took a look at the Dimarzio website and read the info on the Drop Sonic, when I saw the picture of of it I thought it was just a Megadrive with a new name, Dimarzio adressed that in their article, but when I saw the specs on the Drop Sonic it looked alot like the specs of the Megadive, maybe a bit less in the treble range but very close, I've had the Megadrive in a guitar since about 87, and it really has that 80's metal sound, very clear and defined, maybe a little bit too much treble, and not as much mid-range as I like in a humbucker, but it is good for that 80's type sound, I don't know if this info helps you out or not, I hope it does, but buying pick-ups is alot like buying new underwear, you don't know if they'll be comfortable until you try them on
