I have come up with a way to play faster then usual. All you have to do is put your picking hand straight up on the body of the guitar. Now, just "vibrate" your hand as fast as you can, while picking the string. This will help you play faster songs, such as "Master Of Puppets," "Battery," anything by Satriani, or "Flight Of The Wounded Bumblebee."
"Our attitude was, Let's not be lazy about it. Let's have something new to offer."

That's cool that you figured that out. Some people can never learn how to do it and to others it comes naturally. As far as I go, I learned how to do it about 3 months after I started because all I ever listened to was old school Metallica. One thing you want to remember, though, is that James Hetfield down picks everything in "Master of Puppets". That takes a lot of practice and you'll always need to warm up before you can get to tempo. Trust me on this, by the way. I used to be a full on Metal Head.
Ain't nothin' but a Gear thang, baby!

Ah, the good old thrash metal picking technique. I've been picking like that for quite a while, you can come up with all kinds of good riffs that way once you learn to control it properly. Listen to some old Megadeth for a good example.
Also if you can find it get, the self titled album by a band called Deliverance, they use that technique to the fullest on that album. It's thrash metal at it's best.
