Hi All.

I'm 68 years old and completely new to playing the guitar, but not new to playing a musical instrument. Since the age of 11 years I've played a variety of brass instruments.

Having retired 12 months ago, I decided (or maybe my wife decided for me 😄) that I needed a new challenge and on a recent cruise vacation I was inspired by a guitar player who entertained onboard. That got me watching a few YouTube videos about how learning to pay the guitar, especially for people my age, was good for your wellbeing. That was it! Decision made!

I now own a Yamaha SLG200S "silent" guitar, which enables me to practice without annoying the neighbours (or my wife). I've also invested in an amp, so that I can enjoy the full sound when no one is around to complain about my practising my chords!

Choosing GuitarTricks was easy! A little bit of research on the web and a brief trial with another app led me here and I'm really enjoying the experience of learning a new skill!

Hi Pete,

Best of luck with it. I have been at it for a few years, starting at 57 and am still at it about to turn 63. Your experience with music will really give you a leg up.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Congrats on your Yamaha and "privacy amp" set-up. Nice to be able to indulge in your music and not worry about attracting anyone's attention sometimes!

Great for practicing!

Once again, welcome - and have fun!
