I'm new to this channel so be easy on me please.  I've been on this earth 72 years and have been playing AT guitar for about 20 years a with no direction.  Just fiddling around.  I'm trying to gain some direction now and have my chords and changes down pretty smooth, with 1 exception. Trying to get a change from C to F barre and G to F barre, and probably any other open chord to F barre.  I know the F barre, it's been my nemesis for a couple years now.  I've tried about all I can think of, repetition, rolling my index finger around, etc. and it still sounds like s$&t !  Every now and then one good one will sneak out.  I have a fairly good amount of arthritis in my hands but I play thru it as long as I can.  Any suggestions that may help me will be much appreciated.  Thanks all, for listening.

Hi Larry, is it just the F chord in barre form that is giving you trouble or do you find all barre chords difficult?

I'm asking because if its just the F giving you problems, maybe you can go from the G in barre form and just slide the whole thing down two frets to get to the F easier.

Also, have you tried using the F as an open chord? C to F as open chords is just moving your middle and ring fingers down one string each.

I'm certainly no expert and have only been on this site since January myself, but hopefully some of what I said may help you. If not, I'm sure there are others on here, much more knowledgable and skilled than me that can help you out.

Anyway, welcome to the site. I find it to be great fun, easy to follow and the lessons are great. - Have fun!

Welcome Larry

I agree with Oz that using an open F would be an option. Getting an F barre chord can be difficult with arthritis, especially if you are playing an acoustic . What song are you working on?
