I watched a great video Anders had about breaking it down as to "what type of guitars you want to become"

He was saying you don't need to learn everything but narrow it down to what helps you achieve your goal of playing. This will get you more focused.

He mentioned listing the 3 skills that will help achieve your goal.

Once I determine these skills how to you go about finding these skills on the site? use specific lessons or full courses?

  1. Play better rhythm

  2. Play fills between cords.

  3. Basic improv in a jam.

Passion is playing Grateful Dead songs.

2 years in and can play basic cords and barre cords.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I encourage you to work through or at least watch through the fundamentals courses to make shore up any missing skills or ideas.  Then pick a style course that most closely matches the style of music you want to play.  My guess is blues or rock since the Dead is the band you mention.

Regarding the specific skills you mention.

Playing better rhythm is something that happens with practice.  Pick a course, work through the lessons and practice regularly.

Playing fills in between chords is a specific topic I cover in these tutorials.  They start simple and gradually get more advanced.

These tutorials cover the basics of improvisation:  figure out the key signature (or scale) to use, pay attention to the chord progression and target chord tones, build melodic phrases.  A lot of this comes down to building vocabulary.  Again they start wimple and gradually get more advanced.

Hope that helps!

Das hängt stark davon ab, wie sicher man sich mit der Technik fühlt und wie regelmäßig man übt. Kleine Fortschritte summieren sich mit der Zeit. Wenn ich Pausen mache, nutze ich manchmal etwas Einfaches wie Book of Ra DE, bevor ich wieder konzentriert weitermache.
