I watched a great video Anders had about breaking it down as to "what type of guitars you want to become"

He was saying you don't need to learn everything but narrow it down to what helps you achieve your goal of playing. This will get you more focused.

He mentioned listing the 3 skills that will help achieve your goal.

Once I determine these skills how to you go about finding these skills on the site? use specific lessons or full courses?

  1. Play better rhythm

  2. Play fills between cords.

  3. Basic improv in a jam.

Passion is playing Grateful Dead songs.

2 years in and can play basic cords and barre cords.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Besides diligent practice, what are the best ways to develop the three skills mentioned above?

Good questions, I am also interested in the answers or at least how to get on the right path to make our own decisions on how to reach our goals.

Hi gstacho28,

For the Dead, rhythm isn’t just strumming — it’s groove and feel.

On the site, look for

Strumming pattern lessons (especially syncopation)

Lessons on groove and timing

CAGED system rhythm applications

Playing along with backing tracks

Instead of random lessons, search specifically for

“Rhythm guitar fundamentals”

“Strumming geometry dash lite dynamics”

“Playing in the pocket”

You don’t necessarily need a full beginner course again, targeted lessons will probably help more.

Question
Where is this vid you speak of?
(link plez)

my two sense

IF your objective is to be able to play Grateful Dead songs specifically

THEN I'd pick a Grateful Dead song

AND reverse engineer my studies in that context.

everything on the site will apply to any application that's how music works.

any scale lesson
just transpose to the key applicable to the song you want to learn

any chord lesson... that's finger dexterity coordination; and those chords will come up in some Grateful Dead song eventually

the key to learning ACTIVELY processing the information
"How does this apply to my objectives?
How is this universally applicable?

etc

it's all hands on the guitar it's all universal knowledge of the instrument

and as long as your engaging with your primary goal in mind
long term: GD songs
short term: THIS particular GD song...

THEN you'll streamline your progress; and enjoy the process.
