First I will paraphrase my intro: 53 years young and getting back into guitar after a 25 year hiatus.
I find it a daunting task to try and figure out where to begin, what programs to follow, what to practice etc.
I also starting playing bass. At scottsbasslessons, they have a blueprint program ($6000 per year). But what it gets you is a personalized coach that you meet every other week via video for an hour. A year long blueprint is set up for each student to follow based on their needs. But every blueprint plan includes the pillars of playing bass (rhythm, groove, timing, reading music, ear training etc.). I am given songs to practice, exercises to practice and I submit videos to him. He reviews and makes comments. It is like being in bass school. I have deadlines to meet. There are progress reports along the way. I like this approach because it helps me work on the skills that I need and has someone there to motivate me. Two months in and I find it to be worth while.
With that said, I don't see anything at guitartricks that is similar besides signing up for personal lessons. For those that need the motivation and structure are personalized lessons the way to go?
I know for some, they are good at self-motivation and creating their own plans. I am not one of them. I need an experience guitar teacher to help me with a plan and motivate me to follow that plan.
Any input would be appreciated.
