I dont know if you mean acoustic players who play solos, or acoustic players who play on their own, Im confused. But Clapton does both, check out Layla (unplugged) and Change The World.

Tommy Emmanuel, chet Atkins, Leo Kotke, Keller Williams............and if you want to hear some incredible nylon str. players check out John Williams and Paco de Lucia.
Btw..not to sound mean, but whoever said Eric Clapton is a great solo acoustic player needs to check out some of these players also to see what can really be done w/the instrument.

One of the world's best solo acoustic player is Sylvain Luc, he sounds like Allan Holdsworth being accompanied by Joe Pass (another virtuoso solo guitar player) all at once.

The best steel-string acoustic specialists Ive heard are Michael Hedges(RIP),Tommy Emmanuel, Leo Kottke, Tony McManus and Adrian Legg. They've pretty much taken finger picking to the max. For sheer technique, you cant beat flamenco players like Pace de Lucia, Paco Pena and Tomatito. For acoustic flatpicking the master is Clarence White..of Byrds fame (also RIP). Among rock players, Eric Johnson's about the best I've heard.

I had the chance to go into Albany N.Y. a few weeks ago and hear Rik Emmett from the band Triumph play at a small club
was all acustic and was all good he played 6 and 12 string
and did a great job, Clapton unplugged is one of my fav. c.d's and any thing by Chet Atkins is going to be good. I am working on looking up some of the players named here and not a bad one in the bunch thanks folks
