This outline is in step with his current course, but never the less, it touches on solid fundamentals in a one sheet format.

Hey Bill:

I checked out the link you sent to me. I went to the 13.02 mark as you indicated, (see!!!  I told you I am good with following clear, structured, instructions! 😁).

I did notice the “paper sheet” you mentioned. I couldn’t read it very well. So I looked to see if I could print it. That’s when I noticed he had a patreon page. Have you pursued that aspect of his offerings?

I went back through our messages, posts, forum, thread, or whatever silly name is associated with this specific type of communication we got going on here. haha. I did notice your comments about Korey’s lessons being a bit… perhaps “geared for” an audience that is not all inclusive? Not sure if my interpretation of what you said is accurate. I mention it because as I was looking at the specific video you referred me to, I noticed it was “week 17” of his “learning guitar in a year” program. From only the “perception” of how I picture that approach, it sounds right up my alley. BUT! I do admit to me taking a “judging a book by its cover” mindset.

unfortunately, (realizing this only hurts myself), it still “sticks in my craw” thinking of all the time and effort I put into crafting a series of messages to GT, including labeled screenshots showing the differences in the way GT displays info based on which “approach” one takes to ascertain the same information. And getting a reply that indicating my message was not read in its entirety, was frustrating to say the least. Especially when the point I was making was not only geared for myself, but applied to other subscribers, as well as providing valuable feedback to GT which was far more descriptive, and far less costly = $0  (for them financially), RE: marketing. Though GT may have taken a bit of a hit in its reputation.

And yes! (This is not directed at you Bill), rather others that may have started reading this “thread” at this point. I did acknowledge in a previous message that I do realize ALL approaches (eventually) lead to the same place. However, why not (GT folk) take the time to ensure precision, independent of path chosen to reach that ”same place”? And by precision, I am using the definition of the word in scientific applications. Which means “repeatability”. More specifically, how close a group of measurements, in a data set, are to each other. Hence my application of the term for GT, Independent of whether one elects to use the website or app, the precision (repeatability) should result in same clicks, same screens, same result”. Doing so would take more time and effort  (hmmmm… where did I see that before? 🤔),  on the part of GT, but I would like to believe as a business, they would want satisfied customers, as that leads to increased profits.

Bill: (follow-up)

If I am correct, you said you began your journey with guitar in 2019 at the age of 57?

I have a few questions that are geared specifically to you, and your journey/experiences. That being said, please don’t feel an obligation of any kind, to provide answers to my questions. I feel strongly about respecting the privacy others.

I will include my questions in a list format. They will not appear in order of importance, rather as a function of which question (I previously formed) happens to be in my head as I type them out. You know, like when as a kid at the grocery store, where that small section of “Gumball” machines were. You place your dime, or quarter, in the slot and turn the knob until the tiny football helmet (in the plastic case), drops to the bottom where you can fish it out? Yeah… like that. 😁

A) Do you focus (play) mainly acoustic or electric? Or perhaps a relatively equal amount of both?

B) Do you have a particular style/genre of music you gravitate toward?

C) have you mastered Eddie Van Halen’s “Eruption” yet? hahahaha 😁

D) Being an older learner, (like myself), do you suffer from any hand/wrist pain, outside of any normal discomfort all learners experience? Such as arthritis, carpal tunnel? Part is why I ask this is because diagnosed with an “essential tremor” (my hands shake a little). It gets worse when I specifically focus on any task dealing with hand/finger dexterity, e.g. writing. As a result, fretboard fingering has become more of a challenge.

E) You asked me of goals I have. I apologize for not addressing that. Mainly, my goal is to learn to play such that I can play a variety of songs that are not too difficult. More along the lines of a rhythm guitar player, not a lead, featuring insane solos. (see above “Eruption” reference as what I am not striving for). hahaha                 I really enjoy writing lyrics. I do so by first having the overall idea of the song, along with some lyrics for the verse and chorus. Then I fiddle around with basic open chords progressions, and some Barre chords, In order to find some music I feel “fits” the song. This also helps me refine the lyrics such that they flow well with the guitar. Hence, learning to play the guitar at an (intermediate +) level, would give me more options for “finding” music to go with the lyrics. What are your goals?

F#) Haha, I had to throw in a musical reference somewhere in my “list”, with the (F sharp). You mentioned your role RE: ensuring all employees are trained in a consistent manner. Are you a manager, or owner? What type of business?

I look forward to hearing back from you. It will help me gain a better appreciation of who this (mysterious Bill fella) is. 🙂

Hey Doug, thanks to a bot, your post came up again. I guess I missed some posts from you, I don't always go back into a post, so I guess bots can be handy lol. Anyway, hope things are going well for you and you are making some progress.

apologies if this is moot and you've already shifted to actually taking a path.

short version

You require experience in order to have the requisite data you want.

Formulate a hypothesis & actually TEST IT

(choose a path; and take it)

you don't need absolute clarity about what you want to do with music. before you get started.

in fact I'd argue it is fundamentally impossible for you to have absolute clarity about what you want to do with music before you get started;

because you are just beginning the journey. You require experience in order to have the requisite data you want.

at the beginning stage practically every single thing you learn is applicable to all paths in music > guitar.

elaborations

ANY path on google maps will get you there.

but ONLY if

you actually CHOOSE ONE, and follow it.

you could spend 10 weeks starring at the map and weighing the routes

and then choose a path; and realize the data was inaccurate; and it's not actually the best path.

It's good to access factors

but at some point it's diminishing returns.
