For the price of some strings, yeah, they might be a bit gross to play on. Steve White is the tech guy here maybe check with him but I think he would say the same. If you do contact him he'd probably like some details on the guitar, but as your just starting out again, some light acoustics might be easier on your fingers. Brands are a matter of preference, I like Gibson strings on my acoustics but that is me.
