I started learning about a month ago, and my finger tips were hurting. I thiought that would get better when I got calluses and it did, in a couple of weeks (I practice at least a little while every day). However, for the last couple of days, even with the calluses, they are really hurting again, enough to limit my practice time. Is this normal? Will it improve? Is there something I can do?
Finger pain
Hi,
unfortunately it is. It took quite some time for my fingers to adapt. Months in even with calluses I would get sharp pains. All you can do is either play through it or take a break.
one other thing to note is that at first your finger tips will have very rough even broken calluses. They will go away over time and your finger tips will be smooth.

I was having a lot of finger pain as well at about the one month mark. It was also limiting how much I could practice in a day. Then I realized I was pressing WAY too hard on the strings. I started playing around with how much pressure was just enough to not get a dead note or a buzz. From there I kept practicing with just enough pressure and my fingers feel SO much better. Maybe you too are pressing harder than necessary? I still have calluses but no pain.

I started only last Thursday... i have tingly feeling in my finger tips... amd not blisters are starting to form. On the bright side... this is expected, and to have this means I must be doing something right. I'm using the right part of my fingers and I'm practicing enough to form blisters. Just keep it going and push through with little victories.
