Any suggestions on the settings to emulate his Smoke on the Water tone using the Katana? I'll be using a Strat.

Katana Mk II - Ritchie Blackmore Tone

Blackmore was a huge influence for me. I cover his style in this tutorial.
Using the Katana I'd start with these options.
Amp: crunch
Using the Katana I'd start with these options.
Amp: crunch
Volume & gain: 50%
Bass: 60
Mid: 60
Treble:40
(Although you could probably just do 50% on all of them, because the important part is . . .)
Booster: green more clean boost, or orange for treble booster. And you'll have to dial it up or down to taste. If your guitar pickups are hotter, then you don't need much boost (30-40%), but if you have relatively low output pickups then a bit more (50-60%). But the boost is an important element.
Blackmore's tone has less distortion than you might think at first, it's a pretty clean tone, but with some bite. To get that combo he typically used Strats sometimes with low output single coils, later with hotter single coils, then into a treble booster (an earlier lo-fi version of an overdrive) and later a tape deck for a clean boost, then into a dimed Marshall or Vox. So, it's a thick, full sound, but pretty clean with some bite.

There are a few videos you can find with a search on Blackmore tone with a Katana. And there are also some Katana patches people have uploaded. But I think most of them use way too much gain or distortion.

Just a side note guys.
I'm working on Lazy right now with a local teacher and until he brought this song up I never paid much attention to DP. But now, at 61 and really hearing Machine Head for the 1st time, I'm blown away at how good this band was in the day. Depth in every position.
This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

As a teenager I wore out at least 3 vinyl copies of Made In Japan trying to figure out Blackmore & Jon Lord's licks! Those guys invented Baroque & roll. :) And better late than never on Machine Head. One of the best riff & lick rock albums ever.

Thanks Christopher, I'll check out your settings. I did find 1 patch for the Katana Mk I but it didn't sound very good at all.

I've tried the settings you suggested and it sounds good to me, I set the Tube Screamer boost to 50%.
