ive knowticed that the pick ups malmsteen uses.. d marzio or somthin like that are some wat popular..whats makes these good pick ups?

A certain breed of guitarists love the ToneZone pickups, some love the Super Distortion Pickups, Some love the PAF's, etc.
Think about the world of Humbuckers (outside of stock pickups): Who are the Major Players?

Randy RHOADS used a dimarzio super distortion on his polka-dot V. from what i've heard it sounded great.
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

Aftermarket pick-ups are a bit of a scam in some ways, alot of great music has and is still being made with the stock p/u's that came with the guitar, the guitarist is still the deciding factor, but when word gets out that guitarist X is using Brand Z pick-ups, the next sound produced is the one made by a cash register, CHA-CHING, but being a consumer of aftermarket p/u's I admit they do have their good points, they are just not the holy grail of instant great tone that the advertisers claim.............

True pstring. They are not miracle-makers, but they do give you a subtle difference. They can give better sustain and stuff, and are better for getting a signature sound. Other than that, they are not good for much more, unless you have a s#|tty p/u setup on a cheap guitar, they are good for that too.

Ive never had the chance to play with a DiMarzio Super Distortion pup before.Does anyone know if it can stand up to an EMG 81?

I would have to disagree with aftermarket pups being a scam or waste of money.Upgrading your pickups is the most cost/effective upgrade you can do to your guitar besides changing the very wood the guitar is crafted from(which isnt realistic or feasable).The results are instant and the change in tone/sound is noticable depending on what your upgrading from to.You can tell a crappy pickup a mile away with its dry/stale distortion,fast decay/no sustain and horrible response.The funny thing is there arnt to many "true aftermarket" pups.Most guitars above $500 carry one of the "big 3"(Duncan,Dimarzio,EMG).Unless your getting hand wound pickups made by a small luthier that cant be found in a line of guitars,there really not "aftermarket".

I've always loved Dimarzio.
I have an Evolution set on one of my RGs, a paf pro/evolution on another, and evolution 7s on my 7 string.
However I think I like the super distortion and S3 the best, they came stock on Fender HM Strats (what I play mostly), so I get my favorite guitar, with my favorite pickups for no more than $300. :)

This is actually pretty funny, because for some reason when you mentioned the capital letters, I thought you were talking about the board cracking down on messages that are in full caps (like today), which is why I mentioned the difference.
