hello,   i will pass 2 years learning in november 24.  i hope to be able to go to a local venue and play/sing a few songs at their open mic.  i have a taylor academy 10 dred acoustic steel string guitar.  the venue says i need a pickup. i want to get a magnetic passive soundhole pickup.  at this moment, i think i want to get a fishman neo d 02 (humbucker).   the runner up is the duncan woody humbucker.  is the fish a good choice?  i also want to make it sound more wooden and less metallic.  and maybe raise the volume if needed.  do i need an expensive preamp?  or will a cheap one do, such as this one?  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Adeline-Audio-Amp-Preamplifier-Preamp-6-35mmWith-Bass-Eq-6-35mm-With-Bass-Preamp-6-35mm-With-Mewmewcat-Eryue-Ni/5432151432?athcpid=5432151432&athpgid=AthenaItempage&athcgid=null&athznid=siext&athieid=v0&athstid=CS055&athguid=n8XoNckQvY3ZPee1olikHNt4sGvuqP4dlJXp&athancid=160934526&athposb=0&athena=true

i found someone online who said it does what i want as stated above.  if not that one, what about a behringer adi21?   or a fishman afx pro eq mini ?  or a fishman stage eq ?   thank you for your advice.  dale

I don't have any experience with pickups in acoustic guitars.  But I've played guitars that used Fishman pickups & seen other players with them & I think they function & sound fine.  It seems like I've seen many acoustic pickups come with at least a volume control if not EQ controls.  I suppose it would depend on the model you purchased.

I would be wary of any electronic device that is that cheap.  It might function fine (or not) & might not last very long (cheap parts).

Best of success with it!
