When I first started , I used to wear the guitar as low as James Hetfield or even lower !!
But now I usualy wear it just a little lower than Steve Vai , and I think it looks pretty cool on me.

I worried more about looking cool with the guitar as I was a beginner , but now all I care is comfortable playing ... Wearing the guitar very high is more comfortable for the fretting while wearing it lower is more comfortable for my picking.

BTW, Your performance is what makes you look cool , not how high/low you wear the guitar.

Well said...it makes me sad to see guitarists who are practically bending double to reach their guitar and have bad technique that will hinder their development just for the sake of getting that 'cool' look (which I don't think looks cool at all.)

Well, I took a tip from seeing Rusty Cooley play at a clinic, and I wear mine very high. Its much easier, gives you better access to all the frets.

Hear hear! High= accessible, low = pose/playing badly.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

I have it so when my arm is fully extended downwards my pinky can touch and curl around the tail piece of my Les Pauls. Thats pretty low!

I once had my guitar to where it was at my nuts and i hated it! Since then, i've bought a new leather strap and now i can actually play it comfortably!
....What a long, strange trip its been.....

I wear mine high, up around my waist. It's just more comfortable that way. I can reach the frets a lot easier.

I agree that your playing makes people think your cool way more than how you look when playing it.

Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

i wear mine as high as my strap will let me, I hate when my friends wanna play my guitar they lower the strap and im like wtf! how can you play like this?(although they cant play so it makes sence.) You should see Tim Skold With marilyn manson now hehe, he literly has it down below his knees hunched over, during a show he brough out a big double bass and was dragging it around stage which looked cool ;), more bassist should do that.

i wear mine as low as my strap will go, that said my strap is pretty short(got it off a friend, he is 5"7', me 6"3') and i sits at my waist, i find that good enough.
