I am a beginner at guitar. When starting out I see the beginner course level 1 and level 2 has an old course and a new course. My question is, do I start with one and switch to the other after completing one of the courses? Or, is the course material the same for old and new, but given by a different instructor?

Anders is the newest version. I did Lisa's about 5 years ago. I think Anders course might be a bit more streamlined by the sounds of his ad.

Both will be good, both instructors are still on the forum although Anders is more active.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

I'm also new to playing guitar. My opinion is to start with one course and move on to another after completing one of the previous courses.

I have exactly the same question: should I use the 'old course with Lisa' or the 'new course with Anders'. How do they differ? Do they use different methodology? I don't think this has been answered properly yet.

There are 3 versions of the Fundamentals 1 & 2 courses.  You can use any one of them to get started learning guitar.  If you are already working through one of them & it was working for you, then stick with that one.  If you want to try something different, then try one of the others.

Regarding differences, each version of the fundamentals courses teaches essentially the same material in roughly the same order, but featuring the distinct personality & approach of each instructor.

So in all of them you will get: an intro to the guitar, note names, simple melodies, then scales, simple chords, then open chords, then barre chords, all with chord progression examples & the appropriate focus on technique.  All of this is presented in gradually increasing levels of complexity with musical examples.

Anders's is the most current with the most up to date production values.  If you are just starting out, this is the one to use.

Lisa's is the next oldest.  You can get to it by clicking on the old course with Lisa button on the GF1 landing page.  Or just use this link.

Mine is the oldest.  You can see the structure of it from my instructor page.

Or you can start working through it by starting at this link that goes to the first lesson.  Then you can see the navigation links on the right side of the page under the content tab.

All of them will help you learn to play guitar.  Hope that helps!

My Experience

I've completed
G.F I & II (Mouridsen) once
G.F. I & II (Schlegal) at least twice

I didn't care for McCormick's so I don't think I completed her version of G.F.1

My Opinion

(I may or may not make a more elaborate statement about this on my day of rest)

IF you are more folksy and less ambitious approach...
THEN: McCormick's courses
(I can't say that's 100 good summation; because I never completed it)

IF you are more ambitious... & lean toward appreciating a more technical and theory approach
THEN: Schlegal's "discontinued" courses

IF you are more ambitious... & lean more toward "[Just stick to the practical application]"
THEN Mouridsen's courses
