I'd offer to kill the fatted calf in celebration of the prodigal son's return, but it seems our Alberta beef is unwelcome across the border.

So have a 2.3% beer, and know that you were missed.

Welcome back, bro! :)

As a way to allow the breweries to continue operations during Prohibition, beer was limited to max 2.3% alcohol. It's been stuck like that ever since.

Here in Canada, one of the first things we do when we meet an American visitor, is take 'em out for a pint. Then over a proper (at least 5%) pitcher, we explain why American beer is like making love in a canoe. By pint number three, the story usually comes back, as one they just made up.

Well it's good to be back and to see that most of the old regulars are still around, seems alot of the posting concerns beer and buzzing nut jokes, well the place hasn't changed.................................

is it true that in certain states in the US it is prohibited to drink alcohol in public or somke in public?
i mean.. i´m non.smoker, but who the hell cares about someone somoking a cigarette while walking trough the streets? thats just rediculous. its ok to prohibit it in public buildings or make a smokers corner or something.. but under the open sky??????

and as for drinking.. oh my god... europe would crumble to dust the day you prohibit having a beer under the open sky.

I'm afraid that the land of the free is is getting to be alot less so, for the most part things of this nature are being regulated at the city or municipality level but you can find restrictions like the ones you mentioned popping up all over the U.S., and after living in Germany almost 5 years, I can't think of any that would start a revolt quicker than banning public drinking of the national beverage.......................

you a native american who lived in germany?

Dann müsstest du ja der deutschen Sprache mächtig sein!

very interresting.. not alot of the americans on the net whom i am talking to have a clue about what europe is like.. they still think america is the best and coolest and socialist systems is the devil. would be interrested in hearing your comparison.

Ja, Ich bin Americanische, ist das die Rathaus oder die Bahnhof? , well you can tell it's been a while and I never really became much of a conversationalist but lucky for a hick like me, most Germans took pity on me and spoke english after I made my retarded attempt at German, I really enjoyed Germany, and have so many fond memories of it, I lived in Kaiserslautern from 85-88, and Nurnberg (Fuerth) 92-94, and I would have to say that if I ever get kicked out of the US, I'm heading straight for Bavaria. I really enjoyed the culture of Germany and have to say that most of the people I met were great, my wife got me into Volksmarching so we got to see alot of small town Germany, the food is good, and German beer will absolutely ruin any appreciation you ever had for any other beer like substance, I did make it across the border to Salzburg, and of course had to see W.A. Mozart's birthplace, what a tourist huh! My only regret is not getting to see more of the country............
