well.. i guess you are doing something wrong *LOL* - does your legato play work on other strings/frets? or is it only that specific pulloff? does the 12th fret sound at all - i mean when you normally pick it? if not, then there might be a problem with the frets or the fretboard... but i guess you simply mute the string unintentionally when you pull off. imagine a pulloff as if you where plucking the string with the finger that you pull off - as if you where plucking the string with your right hand. incase you fret the 12th fret correctly and you do not mute the string, it should sound right.

did i make myself clear? i guess no *LOL*

... and there we see the problem of it all - to answre your question it is essential to actually SEE what you do - thats why i always recommend getting a teacher.

i had the same problem..from what i read ur probly doin the pull off wrong..whne u pull off, just dont lift ur finger actually pull down on the string sorta to get the string to ring so ull beable to hear the 12..go to cyberfret.com,click on techniqes on the left side then hammer on/pulloff maybe that site will be able to answer your problem

I guess you just need to pull off harder and hold that 12th fret more securely. Do more exercises and build your hand strength.

Out of curiousity, when you came up with your screen name, did you write the word "metallic" wrong on purpose, or do you simply not know how to spell the word?

If you want to develop your pull offs you'll need to develop lots of finger strength. One neat exercise involves hammer ons.. Go from the lowest string to the highest string. Just hammer on 1,2,3,4 keeping each finger in place. You'll find yourself loosing volume as your pitch increases, especially if you try this on acoustic, this allows you to gauge your progress. This kind of exercise is very tedious and is best done whilst watching tv or something unless you have a high boredom threshold like I do!
Here's another good finger strength exercise for you:

http://www.guitartricks.com/2000/trick.php?trick_id=6670

Another point, make sure the finger you're pulling off onto is close to the fret but not damping it.

I'm so bored of all this mettalic bashing that I'm posting a new thread, here's the link:

If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?
