Dudes, the fingers have no muscles only tendens. So you are strenthening those if anything. What you want to work on is your forearms and triceps and biceps n such. For more power and more endurance. Especially for speed playing. Though it doesn't hurt to get a ball and grip it and hold for 10 seconds then release wait a few seconds and do it again 7 times then switch hands. Or try someting else and strengthen those fingers.
