I recently copped a Lefty Aria Pro 2,nothing amazing but a decent-ish guitar.
I have a Marshall 100HDFX Head and marshall cab.
My problem is a very common problem.Basicly when ever i mute, the tone sounds very "muddy" and nothing like how it should sound.
Ive played about with the tone and Gain,Middle etc...but am getting no joy.
What advice have you got guys?
My strings are old,so that could be a problem....but apart from that id like your input,Thanks

Also, iam thinking of copping a Boss EQ pedal.
Ive heard soooo many good things about having one of these in your rig.
From Kerry King to Slash....
Any of you guys got any comments on these?...
Thanks

I don't know what you're style is, but it's usually just where you have your pickup selector set. If you've got humbucking pickups try the last one. (closest to the bridge) That works for me. Other than that, try turning down your distortion.

like I said, I don't know what your style of playing is, but a lot of grunge/death/heavy metal freaks get all worked up about not having TONS OF SATURATED DISTORTION and "less is more." you'll have more control and you're palm muting won't sound so much like buckets of paint being splattered on a sidewalk.

Hope it helps. it helps me. lol.

"Less is More" applies to palm muting, as well. I anchor my hand on the bridge, and just roll a bit of the edge of my hand onto the strings. This has the additional advantage of letting me know exactly where my pick is, relative to the strings.

Thanks....
Its not really a style thing....I play thrash Slayer type stuff...BUT...i notice, that it still sounds the same if i do something bluesy....or something totaly different to thrash....

What i mean is..,Say iam playing a Bar chord...,then i decide to Mute it..Once i mute it,the Bottom E string sounds really ****y,muddy and nothing like how it should sound. If i listen to Kerry king(slayer) mute a a Bottom E string note,it sounds better...understand? lol
mine sounds to muddy....i dont have to much gain, just enough for what i do...
any other thoughts?

BTSOOM=Beats the **** out of me!
I didnt know what it ment at first, but now i get it....

Anyway...This problem is really annoying....because when i baught the guitar, the man in the shop and me hooked it up to a marshall cab(cant remember the specifics) and it sounded really good, even with the muting....
But on mine,no matter how i adjust it,it still sounds crappy...
Mmmm.......

I've found that most players and bands that Use Marshall amps and are doing heavy rock or metal are using signal processors for their sound. Marshalls are good amps but if your'e doing "real" heavy stuff like Slayer and the like, I think you'll find that purchasing a digital signal processor will get you where you need to be as far as sound goes. Just don't skimp too much on the price and you'll find one.

Not for nothing and off topic but I think Reign in Blood was one of the top 3 Metal albums of all time.

maybe you should consider a pickup swap for better tone definition.
