For all amature lead guitarists! (5 months and up)

LEARN "ENTER SANDMAN"'S SOLO! it's so easy and fun!
I can't say I like the song much...too slow, but the solo is just fun! and it would improve you speed and accuracy alot.

i can imagine that the enter sandan solo is easy, but you have to keep in mind that not every starter or amateur has got a wah wah pedal(me included). By the way do you really play the guitar only half a year? How many hours do you practice each day? Did you learn your solos by a teacher? You know a bit what i can play, do you think i can get in this time i play the guitar shorter than you(that´s 1 month, i think)to the level you´re right now, or will it take more time?

Dude...that solo sounds great without wah wah too...I don't have one either(I don't like effects like that).
anyway...yeah dude I play only half a year but there are somedays I play 16 hours...I play minimum 2 and half hours a day...I never used a teacher...I figured how to use the tabs and then I discoverd that there's a good thing could "guiat pro", It's a software..look for it, it helps with the tabs alot..you can ritch my level after some time..like 5 months or less if you realy try..
I'll give yo some tips..
1) PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! it helps.
2)do that:
I--1-2-3-4-
on all of the strings and then

I--1-2-3-4- in the reverse order. (do that when you wath tv or anything like that..whenever you can, make sure it sounds good!)
3) practice on scales, it helps too.

4) do alot of strechs..your hand will become stroger and faster.
5) play everything you like, you like a song? play it! practice alot until you get it right...

6) learn all master of puppets! helped me alot...( I dunno how..) each time I play it I get wormed up, play it with the song itself, like your one of the guitars.

you know what? I can give you better tips on the ICQ

Alternate pick Master Of Puppets...the whole thing. You should be able to get it up 10+ bpm's faster the song really is
Anyway...
The best fun solo I learned recently(yesterday)was in 'Black Star' by 'Carcass'.Great run.Another good one I figured out like a week ago is in 'The Heart Collector' by 'Nevermore'.Theres an extremley fast part that sounds intimidating but is cake to play...shut the jerk up who says you suck(if there is such a person).Check both solos out.
Later!

Just keep practicing, and its not really the amount of time that you practice, its the quality, if you sit down and know what you are going to practice before hand it will help you out alot more than sitting there 10 hours a day mindlessly wanking the fretboard. try to set goals for your self and listen to as much music as you can, even if you dont really like a certian style its neat to hear what people do to make differnt sounds in differnt styles of music.

Practice
Dont give up
and most important have fun, guitar shouldnt be a chore, you picked it up in the first place to have fun right?

Yes of course i pickd the guitar to have fun, and i still do. To master of puppets. I can play it till the fast solo starts since one month, but i never used alternate picking in there, and i also think James Hetfield doesn´t, but anyway, thanks for your advices!

Unless you have a floyd/khaler type tremolo the Master Of Puppets solo will present a minor problem, but you should be able to bullsh*t your way around in place of the harmonic "dive n' rise".It shouldnt take more than a day to 'Master' the solo(hahaha get it???Master??Get it?hahah..aaah forget it).

But I´m after that 5 months i play not at a high level, and so it will take more time for me to "MASTER" the second solo, because i still think the beginning of the solo is not that easy, if you want to play it clearly and how it´s standing in the tab. Then it goes on quite easy, and before the bends there´s also (for me) a still quite hard part.

The solo in Death's Lack Of Comprehension is easy but it's alot of fun to play. And just the rhythm part of the song alone is really challenging. Megadeth's Disconnect has a great solo in it that can improve your legato playing. (a flurry of double pull-offs.) I can send you the tab for that if you want me too.

Right on Preservethemetal!
Also check out the solo in 'Crystal Mountain' from Death. The chorus run is exellent too.
Another great Thrash solo thats not so hard is 'die by the sword' from Slayer.

Any of Deaths songs are great learning.

No sorry. If i ever get my guitar setup for down a step tuning i'll figure it out.

Oh yeah,ANY Death song is good. The lead work and runs in Empty Words and Zero Tolerance and awesome, But i think my all time favorite Schuldiner solo is A Moment Of Clarity. Incredible. It's not to technially difficult. But it's got so much emotion in it.
