I think I get it actually, that seems really hard though to control the right hand and coordinate the right hand to hit every note.

Start slow dude...start with the 1234 frets with all of your fingers on all the strings and then 4321...and play every thing you know with this...down up down up down up down up....etc.

I agree that Metalic Dude doesn't know what sweeping is, but it is a good idea to practice scales and fingering excersises while watching TV.

The reason is because that it helps with your unconscious mind. You can't literally think about where each finger is supposed to go and after it goes there where it's going to go next. You don't think about that when you play a scale. You "subconscouisly" do it. You don't sit there and go, ok, my index finger has to go to the fifth fret, and then after that my middle finger has to go to the seventh fret. You just do it because you have trained your subconscious mind to remember this. If you had to think about all this stuff at the same time it would be relatively impossible to do.

It's kind of like walking. You don't consciously think about walking. Like, first my left foot, then my right foot, then my left foot, you just do it. And if you do this while playing the guitar it will become much easier to remember scales and patterns of scales, licks, riffs, things like that.

As far as sweeping goes: You would pick notes all down or all up in a sweeping pattern, similar to strumming a chord. As soon as you have played a note, you remove the finger. Try doing it with the A minor chord.

e|------0-----
b|------1-----
g|------2-----
d|------2-----
a|------0-----
E|------------

Now for this, you would sweep down, real slow to start, like you were strumming it one note at a time, without lifting your pick, as soon as the 2 fret on the d string rings, remove your finger, continuing down the notes, and then you would go back up with all upstrokes, without lifting your pick mind you. If you still don't understand let me know, and I'll try to find a video.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

Try doing two or three string sweeps first..Like this:
Do that very slowly with down and upstrokes. Now when you lift your finger,Don't pull it off completely, Just pull it off enough to where it mutes the note.

E--7----
B--8----
G--9----
D-------
A-------
E-------

I agree, I never said anything about breaking new grounds by doing that.

I said for practicing licks, memorizing scales, it's a very good idea. Because it implants it into your mind.

It's like driving a car and talking to a friend in the passenger seat or playing with the radio (I know this has caused accidents). But it's not like you bring the car to a halt to talk or change the station because you already, subconsciously know how to drive, you aren't thinking about how much pressure to put on the gas pedal or stuff like that. You don't have to have your 100% attention on the road (even though you're supposed too). Ok, driving is a bad example, but you get the rift of the idea.

That's why they say, once you learn how to ride a bike you won't ever forget. Because, it's implanted in your subconscious mind. You don't get on a bike and go, ok, I have to balance on to wheels, turn these pedals, and steer all at the same time. You just do it.

And if you practice guitar this way, you will memorize things much faster. It has helped me immensely.
