By the way, you may all be interested to know that i may be basing my third year Biology Degree Disertation on digit control ( my degree is in biology and computer science ) - i hit on the idea not so long ago when i was down the pub with a phisiology MSc student - i quizzed him about the muscle control of the hand and digits and explained some of the guitar issues to him - had a few interesting points to share. Im considering building a computer software model of the hand for simulation, and also a measuring interface that can record and analyse finger dexterity over a period of a few months - with some kind of training (thus combine my two degree subjects for the disertation) going on. My main intention is to decide if some people just have a natural ability to control their digits (which to an extent is true i think - but only at a basic / beginner level) which could be the reult of genetics or maybe phychological or physiological factors. The main focus of the investigation will be to determine whether excercise makes a difference (yeah we all KNOW it does hehe) to dexterity and to demonstrate the absolute maximum possibilities for finger dexterity, and on the way develop an optimum training regime. Im starting my second year in September once my work placement is over.. anything guitar relevant i come across (if i actually do ll the above) I will be making available to all. If anyone is interested in helping out (Again if it takes off - ill need subjects!) then let me know ;)
Particular focus will be on the strange relationship between finger 2 and 4 (which ive only recently discovered as a problem) and finger 3 and 4 (which everyone - especially you pianists (!) ) knows about hehe. Anyway.. Night all and thanks again.
