Guitar Pickups
I have an ibanez iceman(ic300 to be exact)...and i wanted to change the pickups on it. I wuz just wondering if n e one knew wut kind of pickups Daron Malakian uses on his iceman. I have been trying to figure out wut kind of pickups he uses for a long time...basically since i bought the guitar and can't figure it out. Thanx in advance. Also does n e body use Emg 81's and 85's. I wuz thinking bout getting those but they r $$$...plus i m not sure about changing the batteries in the pickups considering the fact that i m terrible w/ installing guitar equipment...lol

You can't go wrong with EMG 81-85 , and you don't have to worry about the battery changing , cuz they last for a long time.

ya someone told me he uses duncans but they didn't know the model#..I am looking for that wavy system of a down type sound. (Ex: Toxicity intro) And i also want pickups dat are very high output, great for that heavy metal metallica/system of a down/sabbath/ozzy sound. Will the 81's and 85's do this for me.

Hey Pony if i decide to go for the duncan and the dimarzio which should i use as my neck pickup and which as my bridge?

well i know that there are two different models of icemans. the cheap one that has a smaller body and the expencive one that daron uses that has a larger body.soad is one of my fav bands and i know that he uses the stock pick-ups that the iceman comes with. i have met daron once befor one of his shows and i asked him about his gear and equipment and he uses the stock pickups.he did uses mesa-boogie amps for a long time until marshall decide to try and keep up with the rectified sound and produced the mode 4 which i think is **** and thats the amp that he is endorsed by now.as for the emg pick ups i have an 81 in the bridge postion and the most underated emg the 60 in the neck in one of my guitars, and have a s.d dimebucker that i think blows the 81 out of the water for being a passive pickup and an 81 in the neck position that i wish i had never put there thank god that emgs can be replaced by other emg pickup by just unlatching them and can pop in another if the 85 is the pick up that has the gold symbol yeah its the **** thats what i plan on getting next

i have a problem like that with my 81 and 60. when i play the 81 that is in the bridge is sounds great but when i switch to my 60 my volume increases alot it like if i had my amp on 5 o switch to the 60 and it sounds like its on 9 i dont know why but thats just one of the reasoms i like the pick up its super hot at first i thought it was the pick up height so i fived it and it sounds the same

well i dont think i can replace the pots because when you buy an emg pick up it comes with its own pots and u have to replace your old ones

Originally posted by PonyOne'sorry son, the only aftermarket pickups I use are DiMarzio. I have a DP101 Dual Sound (4-wire Super Distortion) and a DP106 SCHB (Super Clean HumBucker) in my Brand X, a DP155 Tone Zone and a DP151 PAF Pro are being installed in The Stalker (formerly the Stocker) :)
...Maybe someone with a little more expertise when it comes to active stuff (like lordathastrings) would know.
My Yamaha RBX350 bass, and all of my Washburns have stock pickups. And all of my pickups are passive. I love electric guitar, but the day I can't play because my batteries are low, is the day I start looking for another instrument!
