I recommend getting a reasonable microphone like a Shure SM57 or an SM58 and a portastudio (i.e. Tascam 424 mk 3 or cheaper) / recording thigamey and record your self singing and playing the guitar.

I bet the first couple of times you do it you want to quit and never sing again however, like everything else, the more you do it the better you will get.

The first time I heard my voice recorded I wanted to die ~ !

By recording your self and listening back to your singing, (providing you have a reasonable sense of pitch) you can critique your own work and then work out what needs to be worked on.

You also don’t have every git in the world telling you how much you suck (cos everyone does at first) until you are ready, well practiced and confident enough to tell people who diss you to bugger off !
