yea..ok heres the situation~
i play a ibanez rg 120 dual humbucker
and a peavey envoy 110 amp.
ok now with the distortion real low..u dont get the right sound doin palm muted stuff..it just dont sound how its supposed to..and with the gain up..u cant hear individual stuff so i'm thinking about a distortion pedal so i'm wondering what would be a good choice for a distortion pedal..or what do u think i should try?...

Check Boss MetalZone or DOD DeathMetal pedals ... Any one should do the job ,if very high gain is what you want.

If you want to spend more money , think of a multi-effect unit ... Boss & Digitech are good choices , but avoid ZOOM at any costs !

Whats wrong with Zoom? I use a Carvin D1 distortion pedal and it works fine for me. I have tried some Danelectro distortions and they suck to me.

Well I've never tried Zoom pedals before, but I do own a recording studio by them and it does its job pretty well.

This might sound stupid, but I thought I would throw in my two cents.

I struggled with sound all my life. It seems I could never get the right sound. I always use distortion.

One day a friend pointed out to me that whenever you use a distortion pedal you need to make sure the amp is clean. If yo play the amp dirty and then turn up the distortion it will sound like crap.

Maybe this is obvious to other people, but I did not know this at the time. Since then I always leave the amp clean and then switch my distortion on/off. It sounds much better.

One more thing....in all my years of using distortion pedals I went out and got a LINE/6 for $250.00 and the "heavy distortion" setting totally kicks ass. It has a sound like no other.

Some people combine sounds of little bit dirty amps & a dist pedal to get their tone .... Joe Satriani, Steve Vai & Zakk Wylde to name a few.

Sly I'm not sure what you mean as far as Zoom goes. I have a 505II that I use as a backup and it took me a couple months but I get great tone out of it for Metal/Hard Rock stuff. The 505II is the only Zoom product I have used so I can't speak for the other Zoom pedals but mine sounds pretty good.

The pedal I prefer to use if I need one for Distortion is the Boss MetalZone. I play through a Peavey XXX right now though so I dont really need a distortion pedal. I do use them for recording at home though and As soon as I get this song uploaded I will post a link to the 505II in action.

I'll be waiting for your sound clip dude. :)

You definitely can't skimp on cheap distortion effects. Someone mentioned Boss sucking, and you definitely can't forget Arion!!! Distortion sounds like a loud fart.

Ive posted on the pedal issue before but whatever.
All I can say is take a look at the MXR DSD.
The thing blows the Boss Metal Zone away in my opinion.
Doxidan is right too.Alot of guitar players dont know to use a distortion pedal in the clean channel or with the gain down.Unless you like massive hum and feedback, its not the best idea to use a distortion pedal with your gain up through your lead channel.
