I do both, depending on what comes first. If I think up a cool line for a lyric, then I'll probably go with the lyrics first. Samething if I come up with a cool lick. Just get your ideas out. Inspirational moments come and go in the blink of an eye, and you can't always control the form you will get them in. When it comes to putting them together, just try to think up a good harmony to go over whatever you got.

I always do the words first. But thats just me. What I do is I get the lyrics down, then I think 'what mood do I want' I put that in my riffs and solos. It depends on what you want. If you want the lyrics to stand out, write them first and use the music to set the mood. If you want something that you can just rock to, get the music down, then add lyrics. It all depends on your style and what you want people to pick up in your playing.
There are no inborn talents, you just need determination.

Get an idea in your head to start, then throw it out on paper or an instrument then write it down if it is good enough to remember. If not write it down so you don't forget. Write lyrics or music whichever comes first. I have found myself personally writing most of the music, then I get a lyrical idea and create some more music to compliment the lines. Some of the best stuff can be horribly simple and horribly catchy, don't be affraid to be tied down by restrictions either. Let all the ideas come no matter how cheesey or lame they might seem. THough if something seems bad ass, go with it. I suppose it will depend on the mood of the song and the message of the vocals, and if you have none in mind, make it up as you go.

I've typed my peace,
