So I've been playing for a while, and a well-known (almost cliche) piece has been eluding me. I've always tried to learn the beginning of nothing else matters by Metallica, and I've pinpointed a spot that always trips me up in the intro. This is the part:

E---------0-----0--0--0-
B-------5-------5--5--5-
G-----5---------5--5--5-
D---------------------------
A--0------------0--2--3-
E---------------------------

The 0 - 2 - 3 part on the "A" string is a tough reach for me to make and it always kills the songs flow when I try to do it. I guess what I'm looking for is what fingers go where on this part. Should my pinky and ring fingers cover the G and B strings while I reach with my index for the A string changes?
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

I love playing that song and that's how I play it. Ring and pinky fingers on the 5th fret and then stretching with the index finger. Just keep practicing and you'll get it.

Also if you enjoy playing that song I recommend learning Van Halen's "Year to the Day" it's an excellent piece and the opening of the song is great. Not to mention the bluesy solos in the song.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

Me I just hold the chords normally and then play some sort of PIMA fingerpicking thing. It isn't totally accurate as per the record9and wouldn't be anyhow, since I have an acoustic guitar),but it goes fairly well.

You could just cheat like this :

E-------------0---------
B-------------5---------
G------------5----------
D-----------------------
A---0---2---3-----------
E-----------------------

Great song... no matter how irrelevant that comment was to the subject I love that song.
