About the only thing I can say for sure, is that after you've had your first electric for a while, you're going to want to change something. This is because you can't really know what you want until you've been playing for awhile. Don't worry about getting just the right axe first time out. Poke around in the used guitar racks, try out everything you can get your hands on, and remember to assess an instrument with your ears open, and your eyes shut.

Use the search button at the top of the page to dig some old threads out of the archives. A lot of us have laid out some good stuff over the years. If you find a thread that raises some more questions in your mind, post a reply to it, and we can have another go at it.
