Hello everyone!!

Just some questions: (pls remember I'm all self-learned and never talked to a guitar-theatcher..)

1. I'm really so tired of playing scales.. I just play the same all the time..

e|--15-12-11
B|----------------15-12-11
G|------------------------------14-12-11
D|--------------------------------------------14-12-11
A|----------------------------------------------------------11-9-7
E|------------------------------------------------------------------------11-9-7

I'm playing metal so if anyoneelse ever had the same problem, could you suggest any other scale?

2. How thick strings do you use? I'm playing right now with 0,8 mm, used to play with 0,11 mm. That's a difference, but my new strings are so much "faster"..

Hi there, hope this helps:

I've got some references to tricks I posted, two very heavy
ideas which use some odd scales,

Bhairava scale
http://www.guitartricks.com/2000/trick.php?trick_id=3382
Hungarian major
http://www.guitartricks.com/2000/trick.php?trick_id=5038

These are very obscure scales and learning them won't teach you to play much anyone else has bothered to write! On the other hand you might like the heavy sounds of them playing metal as you do.
The most important metal soloing scale may be The harmonic Minor Scale.

Here's A harmonic Minor:

A B C D E F G# A

Chord are:
A minor (ACE), B (BDF) Diminished, C (CEG#) Augmented, D (DFA) minor, E (EG#B) Major, F (FAC) Major or F (FG#A)minor G# Diminished (G#BD)and Augmented (G#CE).

i HOPE THIS HELPS.

As for strings, well, finer gauges are better for bending but their tone is thinner and less rich. Personally I think fine gauge strings are fine if you've got the sound you want from your anp and fx and use 09s.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

I forgot to mention that the site whose URL I have pasted below maps out scales onto fretboard diagrams, a great learning aid.

There's a cool article by Ozzy's guitarist, in this months guitar world.
Let's say you have numbered your scale's degrees, try jumping around (1/3/2/4 etc...) Or skip strings etc...
