I got two of them in my Epiphone V, and they are some powerful suckers. No trouble cutting through the rest of the band. The active EQ is really nice. Just remember to change the 9V battery every couple months.

I got EMG81's in both my guitars.
I love em!!!
Before i had them, my sound was all messy and not clear at all. Now i just love my tone, great distortion and sustain, no more of that horrible feedback!!!
People say this pickup isnt good for clean, well, my guitar sounds as clean as it gets with these pickups (someone even asked me if i was using a acoustic simulator!! hehe)
If you play rock/metal, this pickup might just be perfect for ya! (i didnt get paid to say that!)

I want to try a couple, but I don't want to re-route all the electronics & mess with batteries. I'll stick with passives for now.

I've stuck with Dimarzio pickups for years, which are great, but the next guitar I buy I might get some EMG 85's put in em' I've wanted to try those pickups for years.

I've never played EMG-81's, but I must say the EMG-J pickups in my four string are amazing. I really want to put a set in my five string, however they currently don't make a direct replacement for the j-bass V's, so I'll have to get it routed for one of their current sets. Oh, well, anyone got a couple hundred dollars they want to loan me?

After years of using a peavey guitar with stock peavey pickups I spent $450 on a highly recommended Warlock. The Warlock did not impress me so I decided to return it and upgrade my peavey. I spent $89 on an EMG-81; it was not a hassle to install; the difference was mind-boggling. I did not know that there could be such a difference between the stock peavey humbucker and the EMG-81. The EMG-81 is actually clear. You could barely distinguish between the notes on the stock peavey humbucker; the EMG-81 is way clearer and shreds on clean and distorted. Try for yourself.
