The Wheel Is Turning But The Hamster Is DEAD......
who is best...
right i have to say that at the moment i have many favorite guitarists/bands, steve vai, joe satriani, paul gilbert, metallica, dream theater. i can't decide which is best (there are many more on my list but these are probably the most talented) i know their music is all pretty different but i want all of your views on them, plus i'm at a loss of what to learn next....

I am quickly falling in love with alot of Metallica songs. I mostly like their ballad type songs, because I love that phrygian feeling that you can really sense in them.

You can't really proclaim one band to be the best.
You can possibly look at bands with the same style, e.g Dream Theater and Symphony X, but to compare Theater and metallica is a bit ludicrous.
everyone shifts from liking one style and a couple of bands to another style all the time, i could be listening to Racer X one moment and then some Bach the next, but i wouldn't be able to say which one is the 'best' because that's just not the way to view music.

Chick Corea is the best jazz pianist, Micheal Brecker the best tenor saxophonist, Dave Weckyl: one of the most talented drummers I've ever heard, but as far as the best guitarist? Who knows, maybe Lalimacefolle!

yes, suppose you're right.
Just trying to show that within a genre it could be alright to compare.
