In the UK, the national charts have for the last coupla years been clogged up by crap teen acts doing feeble cover versions. so to kick off here's my top 10 worst covers

1. 'Light my fire ' in the US you maynt have hear this atrocity by the very limp-wristed Will Young but if Dubya did this would be the end of the so-called special relationship.

2. 'Spirit in the sky ' another Pop Idol travesty Gareth Gates' destruction of the Norman Greenbaum classic

3.'Mac the Knife' weedy voiced Gareth Gates does it again on the old Louis Armstrong evergreen.

4. A hattrick from the gap-toothed stuttering little geek and his murdering of 'Unchained melody'.

5. 'Knockin on heaven's door' -no apologies to all you Guns n Roses fans but this was an abomination.

6.'American Pie' . Madonna achieved the unachievable and made a dire song even worse. well done Madge!

7. 'Kiss'. the original was a slinky little seductive number. Tom Jones version comes on like a gorilla on viagra.

8. 'Burning down the house' the Jonester manages another top 10 feat my mauling a groove classic from the best white funk band ever.

9. 'Handbags and gladrags' . never knew the original but the Stereophonics version is dire enough in its own right.

10. 'The tide is high' even one of the weaker Blondie classics sounds monumental compared to the Atomic Kitten cover.

bring it on!!!

I´m not a big fan of the "recycled pop trash" mania that has been going on for the past 2 decades. It has reached a point where you realy have to wonder "is there ANYBODY left in popular chart music industry that can write a song on their own?¿"
Its ok if you have your own band and you decide to do a coverversion to make the album a bit longer. A cover versino where you actually make your OWN version of the song - not just adding some technobeats and a plastic-barbie voice. Check out Rage´s (no - not RATM) coverversion of "Paint it black" - the only thing that is realy the same are the lyrics - the rest is totally different.

Im a big GnR fan but I have to agree on Knockin On Heavens Door, it doesnt touch Dylans original, Slashs guitar work is good tho.

American Pie is a great song, whether Madonna ruined it or not.

"A New England" was done by some woman and it was terrible.
"Satisfaction" was redone by Britney Spears, I feel the Stones pain
"The Beat Goes On" also done by Britney Spears, terrible version, song just has no meaning anymore.

There are more but i can't remember all, beleive me, if I hear one I will tell everybody.
