The link definitely works. I think that you would probably benefit a lot from scale studies and private tutoring. I personally don't know how you got through the first year of playing without going through at least the basics of chord theory and basic scales. You would also benefit from a metronome. You can usually get one pretty cheap.

The setup I use for practice is a Digitech RP200 going through my sound card in my computer. The RP200 has a built in metronome and tuner along with a whole slew of cool effects. I would also be using protools free version to record with if I wasn't running windows XP. I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 to record with. You might want to try the free version of Pro tools to record with instead of the microphone on your computer. You can get a much better sound. You also can get amp farm for pro tools which would make it as easy as plugging into your sound card and having a warehouse full of amps to play with...
I'm getting too far off track... First find a teacher. I have played for 20+ years and I made my biggest gains by searching out tutorilage. Make sure you get the best teacher for your money. Don't just take the first one you come across.
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

You can get a precise free online metronome right here:
