Everyone has a different idea of what makes a great guitarist. Some people like speed, some people like the alternative I can't really play approach. I personally like the emotionalness of Slash's playing. But I also have respect for the other sides to the guitar too. So it's a matter of each to their own.
To me playin guitar is about playin what I like to hear and like playin. Sometimes is speed metal, sometimes it's bluesy rock other times it's grunge or accoustic.
