I actually think this song is played by a guy named Danney Alkana. I've seen his profile in mp3.com and it had a bunch of remakes of classical songs in his cd.

I dunno who plays that, but it isn't Vai. It even says so in the Q&A thing on his website. You could probably find it under his name on any tab website anyway, cause just about everyone thinks he did it anyway.
Try http://www.mxtabs.net or http://www.tabrobot.com
I have good luck with those sites a lot of the time.

I came across this guys web site from Seattle one time, he was doing a lot of classical and mid-eastern stuff on guitar. He had a cd out called From Stratocaster to Strataverius. You can try doing a word search on that title and see if you can find it, he probably covered it also.

You'll find many versions of this one at http://www.mysongbook.com .

And yes , it's "NOT" by Steve Vai.

Malmsteen played it at some live shows , but not the whole thing ... I think the guy who started the thread was asking about the elec guitar sutdio version that have been floating over the net in mp3 format with guitarist names like Vai, Satriani & Malmsteen.

I remember seeing a file named "Vai-Malmsteen-Rhoads Guitar duel" or a similar name... Probably that would be a G3 line up in heavens (or hell) ! ;)

It's pretty funnny , and it would be interesting to know how do these files get that kinda names !

The song SLY was talking about was taken from the movie Crossroads, a blues movie made in '86 introducing Vai as a devil's guitarist... I read somewhere that all the blues songs for the movie were written and played by Ry Cooder but I think that Vai very well might have played the Caprice part with all his other "tricks". After all, if they wanted a guy like Vai play (and act) on their movie, why would they have someone else to play the actual guitars you hear on the movie.

BTW the movie actually shows the multitalent Ralph "Karate Kid" Macchio playing that particular tune...:), yeah right.... But I can assure you that Yngwie had nothing to do with the whole movie although he must have played it at some point during his career no doubt about it.

Steve Vai does play those parts, he also wrote the paganini bit at the end that the Karate Kid plays.

No dude , I was (we were) talking about the 5th symphony by Beethoven , and according to my humble knowledge Steve Vai never played that one ... But there's an mp3 that has been floating around saying it was by Steve Vai , which is wrong according to the man's own words.

In crossroads , Steve Vai played PAGANINI's 5th caprice (not the 5th symphony) , and the guitar (karate) kid acted as if he played it at the end of the duel.
