Hey guys, I'm looking for a good wah pedal. I'm into alot of the stuff kirk hammett does with his wah on black album, and I love John Petrucci's wah tone. I've used the origional crybaby, and I don't think it has quite the right attack. I want something more... brutal, like Hammett's. I've heard cool things about the bad horsie 2 from morley. Does dunlop make a crybaby like what I'm after?

also, I've heard a friend complain that his dunlop crybaby doesn't work well with distortion unless you have an fx loop. Is this true? Is it the same with other wah's?

Thanks

Donno , I love the crybaby.

Kirk Hammett used various sets of wah including the crybaby along the way ... Unfortunately , some of those are custom made , so I don't think you can easily get a copy.

Have you tried different effect setups , like having the wah before or after the disortions/EQ/etc ?

I have heard that Morleys are the best.
cuz because of the technology it operates more smoothly than the crybabys
also you do not have to change parts when they get overused
and I think they have greater range
and the option to turn off when not used, which I think is quite handy when you want to shift quickly between wah-ed and clean sounds.
I do not have one but I have heard these things from a guitarist that I respect greatly and personally I when I have the cash(one good day :)) I'll go for a morley
The world is loaded, it's lit to pop, nobody is gonna stop!

Well if you are trying to find the right wah sound, then a good buy is the boss v-wah. It mimics the different major wahs (crybaby, bad horsie, and the vox something) along with having its own wah mode. It also acts as a distortion pedal, with 8 different distortion modes. It is also very solidly built and reliable.

I like Cry Baby a lot. DimeĀ“s signature wah is great too but expensive. Fantatic lay out (CFH).

I've tried Morleys and Crybabies in a shop. Morleys are more expensive and both I and the sales guy preferred the Crybaby tone so I bought it. Morleys are optical though, this supposedly makes them last longer but regular wahs are basically just variable resistors with a tilt switch so nothing very expensive can go wrong with them. My crybaby's lasted me well so far. A friend bought a Dan Electro which has various other settings but the tone's not as good.
If the reason you're asking us is because you don't want to one from at shop prices then why not try some in shops and then buy them one more cheaply online. Cheeky but hell, why not?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I actually find you get a better range of tone if you cut the distortion. Totally clean tones have massive range. I think that's cause distortion boosts the higher outputs so you can hear them, thereafter a lot of cut out is needed to eliminate them. If you play clean on the other hand some of these higher tones are hardly audible so you can eliminate more of them.
What kind of wah does satch use? Can't complain about his tone on Cool Number 9 or why, it's the smartest wah sound I've ever heard it gives me the shivers!

to be honest with you ive had a morley for a month now and im still glad i didnt buy a cry baby! for a start the cry baby loses some of your presiuce tone when in by pass and its awkward to switch from bypass to acte with all that pushing the pedal down its sounds like your breaking it! morleys are much better plus you could always pick up a used one of ebay
A question to all...

If one synchronized swimmer drowns,
do the rest have to drown too?

I know that kirk hammett has his wahs custom made. He has dunlop crybaby parts installed in ernie ball volume pedals, thats how he gets that awesome range.

i don't think satch uses a wah in cool n#9. I think the pedal he uses is called digitech whammy.

Yeah , that's right dude ... But on the G3 tour he used a wah-pedal too , not sure if he used it in the studio version as well.

I wouldn't mentions cool #9 if I was refering to Satch wah tone anyway.
