Ask him if its a tube amp. If its solid state, i wouldnt buy it, because i hate solid state. If he doesnt tell you, like inside the head or cabinet, the tubes should be eassily asscessible to see since replacement of tubes happen fairly often. Telemaster if your canadian and i know you are, look for a Traynor combo amp. Trust me, save up a little more and give it a try. Go to long and mcqaude and then get back to me. I bought a traynor custome valve 80 and it sounds amazing for only $855 brand new and there is a 40 watt version for $655. My amp has 4 output 6L6 tubes, the same style tubes as fender and 3 pre amp tubes for a total of 7 tubes, which is pretty damn good for the price. Its modelled after the Fender hot rod series, "Deville" but it sounds so much better factoring in the price. Plus it really performs with single coils so your tele will sound amazing, beleve me!
WWSD? What would stevie do?
