The best guitarist ever, hands down, is probably Stanley Jordan. Not only does he have amazing technique (ala Satriani or Vai or SRV), but he can play 2 guitars at the same time! He can fingertap with the best of them!

There are so many good ones out there, and its all opinion on who are the best of all time.
I guess I'd pick Jimi hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, SRV, Vai, Satch, ummm, I know there are a bunch more, but I'd hafta listen to some music or something to decide.
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

My favorite is Kirk Hammett. He's had the greatest influence on my guitar playing.

Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Eddie Van Halen, Satch, Paco de Lucia, John Williams, Jimmy Bruno, Pat Martino, Chet Atkins, Joe Pass....probably missed a few thousand, but this is a good start, these guys are definetly at the top of their game!

I would say the best two guitarist would have to be Jason Becker and Marty Friedman.
Listen to any of their Cacophony or solo albums and you will see how AWESOME those two are!
Jason Becker is a guitar genius!!!

Technique: Stanley Jordan, Micheal Angelo and any other really humiliatingly ambidextrous dudes. Also Allan Holdsworth who plays legato like nobody else on earth. Michael Romeo for sweeping. Pettrucci for being God.

Soul: Alex Lifeson (rush)especially early 80s late 70s stuff(best guitar solo ever, from La Villa Strangiato found on the Albums "Exit stage left" and "Hemispheres") David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)

My favourite all round possibly Satriani but I'm not so keen on his last 2 albums.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

It's human to vary in quality and inspiration. Sometimes playing's so boring it's only finger athletics, other times.. wooohhh it gives me the shivers.

"DJANGO REINHARDT"

Who is this guy? Does anyone know?
And if he is real, as it seems a couple of people of people don't believe in him, do you know what style of music he is, if he indeed has a style?
Thanks
