Weird Satriani tapping
Can someone tell me what does Satriani do with his pick on song like Surfing with the Alien because i've tried somethin like that but it's just plain immposible.

I think he turns it side onto the string, frets close up behind it (so the action of the strings isn't so high) and
taps it off the string. I don't know how he does it so fast; when I try I have to tense my forearm up and sort of simulate a fit! I cheat when I pick-tap and turn the pick side on (perpendicular to the string) and run it back and forth along the string so that the edge of the plectrum frets the string. This doesn't sound quite the same though; the higher note stands out less but I think it's a valid method, it's much easier to do it really really fast. You can do that sort of thing over the top of whatever kind of left hand shred you want and its much easier than it sounds.
