Just name some really good songs with tunings other than standard.

SRV-Pride and Joy(1/2 step down)
Rolling Stones-Brown Sugar(Open G)
Many others, I just don't feel like naming a whole bunch. See what you guys come up with.

Yeah Brown Sugar immediately comes to mind. Also theres a few open G ones, for slide guitar, Bad Obsession by Guns n Roses and a couple Aerosmith too, Monkey on My Back i think.
I never do alternative tunings, can you not do anything an alternate tuning does by just transcibing? Open G tuning is esssential for slide tho.

Open tunings are real good for slide, but not just slide. In open tuning there is the "2finger" chord that is not possible in other tunings. Open G,D,and E all share the "2finger chord".

Slash plays all his songs half step down unless otherwise stated.

Seatle(AIC, Soundgarden, etc) guys play at least one step down.
Or should I say used to play
