Should i be using one finger per fret in the high frets?  Or should I be sliding up and down the strings?  Things are getting tight down there.

In principle you should play a musical passage in the most efficient way possible.  That's usually one finger per fret as a default setting.  But there are certainly times when it's better to use a different fingering.  In the upper frets I typically move to my first 3 fingers on certain passages, especially if there is a bend or vibrato.  I discuss this topic in this video on major scale patterns.

Hope that helps!
