im looking for a good cheap tube amp with a good distortion to it with a nice tight end. ive heard laneys are good and cheap but ive also been looking at a 5150 peavy. i love the sounds of mesas but dont have the money for them so what is the closest i might get to a mesa or just a good quality sound period. i play things like metallica and heavy metal if that helps.

thanx,

I'd avoid Laney, they have a habit of being broken! I had a solid state "Mighty fifty" about 15 years ago and it never worked. They may have improved in the last 15 years however I will never go near them again !
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

take a look at the Marshall DSL 401 it's pretty cheap as far as tube amps go, about $700
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.
