Ive been going throgh some lesson and learning a good amount of the rythms to the sonngs ( thanks GT on the great lessons). I've moved on to really trying to get the solos, and one thing I think would be aweosme is if the instructor could explain the picking technique. Its hard to follow what they are doing even if i slow down the video. I end up having to go outside of GT and scouring youtube for some parts of the solo.

Specifically right now its a repeated arpeggio im trying to learn, and it looked like the instructor was picking differently each time.

Just a thought based on my struggles.

Sorry for your frustration!  What song & specific lesson are you referring to?

Fifth C,

You're definitely in good hands with Christopher here.

My nickels worth - on my iPad I'll slow down the video and try, if possible, zoom in on the instructor's right hand.

Good luck.

Christopher,

No apologies necessary, I apprecaite you responding.

Im working on the first SOLO : Feeling So MEan : Guitar Solo Part 1 from Tesla -Modern day cowboy.

Its the arpeggio run starting with the Aminor arpeggio. I think hes economy picking but then also alternate picking some as well...I just cant seem to find the right picking that works. I did slow it down and zoom but still cant seem to see it. 🙃

Good luck.

I tried the slow and zoom but my brain just does not compute ... 🙂

If any one is interested, alternate picking works starting with an upstroke on the first note(high E) of the arpeggio and progressing through the run from there.

It looks like Mike was using economy picking betwen the second and third notes, but that screwed me up in the transition from one arpeggio to the next as ii seemed to end up doing a double upstroke in the transition and i just couldnt get it "synched".

I Still would like to refer back to my original comment on explaining the picking.

Are there any lessons on the different picking techniques; Alternate, econmy etc...?

I think you've got the right idea.  It looks like Mike starts with alternate outside picking on the first 2 notes, then a quick economy sweep (up on E, down on B, down on E).

I tried it & find it easier to start with inside picking (down on E, up on B), but then I switch to outside as a natural consequence of trying to stay with mostly alternate picking.

But that's all due to how I developed my technique, mostly doing alternate picking starting with a downstroke.   I only do economy with straight sweeping & when I'm mixing legato lines.

I have a whole series of tutorials on developing speed, alternate picking & legato.
