I have got an Ibanez RG, and a Marshall MG30DFX, both very cool indeed :D. When learning songs by slayer and other such heavy metal bands with a tuning of half a step down from E i dont get the heavy metal sound i want. I have set amp up following the manual that came with it for Heavy Metal, which sounds better but still not amazingly heavy metal like :( So i have decided to buy a Distortion Pedal OR an Overdrive Pedal, but i dont know which one of the two will give the best heavy metal thrash sound!?! :S and there are so many out there im baffled as to which to buy.

So my Knowledgeable Chums, have you any pedals to suggest, or can somebody at least tell me which is best for heavy metal, overdrive or distortion pedals.

:D thank you!

since you have a solidstate amp, you're not going to reacreate the sound because i believe that kerry and others use tube amps. you can fiddle around with the controls, turn the pre-gain up and hope for the best, but i don't think you're going to be able to do it perfectly
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

I guess Slayer use JCM-800 , these are pretty expensive ... Anyway , if you want a good pedal that will give you metal sound try Boss MetalZone or DOD DeathMetal .

I had a look on the Boss website and found the Boss MetalZone pedal. I tried the music samples and it sounds loads better than mine does at the moment, :D great! haha now all i have to do is find a place to buy it on the net, and then find the cheapest place to buy it. I dont suppose you could help me with that could you?

Thanks loads! Jowin

No , but you can search for one , I'm sure you'll find a plenty of them.

I recomend that you buy it from a store (in case there's a one near you) so you could try it first and make sure it's the right one for you.

What exactly does this mean, i was told that Tube Amps use glass tubes, but does this literaly mean they have tubes of glass in theM?

Yeah , the word tube refers to vacuum glass tubes that were used for electronic purposes (such as amplification) before the the invention of solid state (transistor) technology in the '50s .

Most guitarists agree that tube amps sound better than solid state (transistor) amps , that's why they're still used till our day.

i think that the Boss Metal Zone is a great buy. coincidentally i happen to own one.
but i think that you would prefer the Digitech Metal Master pedal. go to http://www.digitech.com and than find the Metal Master under X-Series. go to listen. it's pretty self-explanatory.
in fact, i'm planning on getting one because they are so great!
Thanks for listening to this small piece of me.

Don't let the ads fool you ... Never buy anything without trying it out before or having it recomended by someone who have similar musical tastes & background.

Try:

http://www.piedog.com

Im from the UK though Im currently living in Iowa, USA. I haven’t tried the above link so I don’t know how good or bad they are ! If you search Yahoo UK you will find other choices though the UK doesn’t seem to have the online music mega stores I have found in the US.

Happy shopping !

Oh you might want to try the pedals before you buy them to make sure they do what you want them to ! Not being able to do this is one of the hazards of shopping on line, I have ended up with kit I didn’t really want several times...Doh !
