It also depends on whether or not you even care. Look at some of the fenders that Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix played. By the time they were done using it (or died), there were so many nicks and scratches . . . you almost couldn't see what color the original guitar was!
Face it, after awhile, your guitar (unless you keep it in an airlocked cryogenic freezer) is gonna get a little beat up.
My guitar has (literally) chunks missing out of it. But it's built good and is a wonderful peice of equipment.
