techniques for getting good controlled feedback anyone?

i have a helluva time getting feedback at all. i don't know what im doin wrong. it takes forever for the feedback to actually come, i pound on the guitar and stuff but it still takes forever. and in the unlikely event that my feedback comes when i want it to its far to loud and pierces the ears of every one in a 25 mile radius. help me.

i don't know if you're trying this but perhaps you should try volume swells. Put the master volume and gain way up on your guitar, play a note with the volume down and turn it up until it starts to feedback. Try harmonics, they feedback more easily.
If you want really controlled feedback buy an ebow, they're a bit expensive but they've got a wonderful sound. i used to hear some ebow and wonder how the hell anyone got feedback like that; the answer, they cheated.

Well I get awesome easy harmonic feedback from my Seymour Duncan 59s, they were only £120, thats 200 dollars, which is really cheap. You just pick a note, on a distorted channel, then sit back as it slowly turns to an amazing feedback tone.

Also using a wah wah pedal increases feedback but its often too sharp and ugly.

I dont stand too close to the amp. Good feedback comes with higher volume and the right ddistance from the amp.

a guy from my welding class gave me a suggestion yesterday. a distortion pedal with the level all the way up gives him feedback on demand though it is also too sharp and squeally. thanks i was actually considering buying new pickups this month, so i ll look into the seymore duncans. cool

Any active (battery powered) humbucker would help. I'm very happy with my new EMG. Seymour Duncans, EMGs, Di Marzios.. great pickups.
